15 Easy Step By Step Procedure for Kalash Sthapna

  1. Ask Lord Ganesh for His Blessings to fulfil your Navratri Puja without any mistakes and hurdles.
  2. Purify the place with scared water (Gangajal) where you want to do ‘Kalash’ Sthapna
  3. Take a clay pot in which you have to sow barley seeds
  4. First make a layer of clay/ soil in the pot then make another layer of barley seeds
  5. Again repeat the layer of clay or soil and then barley seeds respectively
  6. You can make 2-3 such layers
  7. Now we have to place ‘kalash’ on this pot
  8. Make a ‘Swastik’ (Sacred Symbol) on the kalash and then pour some clean water and Gangal in this kalash
  9. Now place some Unbroken rice/ ‘Akshat’, Raw Turmeric, One Coin, One Beetle nut and some Scent in this ‘kalash’
  10.  Tie this ‘kalash’’s face with ‘Kalawa’ or ‘Mauli’
  11.  Take 5 mango leaves and place on the top of this ‘kalash’
  12.  Cover this ‘kalash’ with a small plate full of unbroken rice or ‘akshat’
  13.  After covering the ‘kalash’ take a Coconut and cover it with red cloth and tie with the help of sacred thread or ‘kalawa’
  14.  Now place this coconut on the top of the covered ‘kalash’
  15.  Lit a lamp and some incense sticks in front of this ‘kalash’ and ask Maa Durga to fulfil all your desires.

  • This is also why there is a tradition where buying utensils on Dhanteras are considered auspicious, as Lord Dhanwantari was born with a ‘kalash’ himself
  • Dhanwantari is known to be the doctor of all deities, which is why Dhanteras is also known as ‘Ayurveda Diwas’
  • The day the sea was churned and Lord Dhanwantari was born, was also the day when Goddess Laxmi was born.
  • On Dhanteras, Kuber Ji, Goddess laxmi, Dhanwantari and Yamraj are worshipped.

Importance of Yam Puja on the Dhanteras day

According to religious beliefs, Yamraj had said that
If any human, on the date of Trayodashi of the Karthik Krishna paksha lights a lamp or ‘deepak’ at the main entrance of his/her house facing Southern direction then his/her life shall be free of the curse of untimely death or ‘akaal mrityu'

Therefore, on this day we must worship Lord Yamraj following proper rites and rituals

List of Items required for Dhanteras Puja

A short wooden stool or ‘paata’, a four-sided Earthen Lamp or ‘diya’, Cotton wicks, Gangajal, Roli, Akshat or Unbroken Rice, One rupee coin, some Sugar, a Conch with a hole, Flowers, Sweets, Mustard oil or Sesame oil, Pure Ghee and Pure Water

In the evening time on Dhanteras, we first worship Yam, then Bhagwan Dhantari, Lord Ganesh, Goddess Laxmi and Kuber Ji

Puja ‘vidhi’ or the proper procedure of the Puja that is to be followed on Dhanteras

  1. First of all, take the wooden ‘paata’/ Chowki and make a Swastika on it by using roli.
  2. Now keep an earthen lamp or ‘deepak’ on this and place four cotton wicks in it.
  3. Now sprinkle Gangajal thrice around all the four sides of the lamp.
  4. Then apply tilak on it with the roli, and then some akshat or rice that is not broken.
  5. After that put some sugar, a one rupee coin and one conch- please mind that the conch or ‘kaudi’ should have a hole in it.
  6. Now offer some flowers and pray for the prosperity and happiness of the family.
  7. Apply tilak on all family members.
  8. Now keep this at the main entrance of the house on the right side of the main door taking care that the flame of the lamp should face towards the south.
  9. If possible, chant the ‘Dhanwantari mantra’ 108 times. It is said to bring more auspicious results Dhanvantari Mantra is ‘Om Dhan Dhanwantaraaye Namah’
  10. After chanting for 108 times, say that “we offer our obeisance to You, Lord, bless us with the best of health”
  11. After this Puja, you must worship Lord Ganesh, Goddess Laxmi and Lord Kuber. For this, do ‘panchopchaar puja’, offer flowers, light earthen lamps and offer sweets as ‘bhog’ do the deities.

  6. Similarly it is auspicious to make imprints of Goddess Lakshmi’s feet or ‘Sripada’ at the entrance of all the rooms of the house

7. HOW TO DECORATE THE MOST IMPORTANT PLACE- TEMPLE OF YOUR HOUSE

Using Red and Yellow colors in temple of the house is very auspicious in Diwali

While selecting Goddess Lakshmi Idol, make sure She adorns lotus in two hands and Her two hands with mudras

Devotees should face North or East direction while offering prayers

On the day of Diwali it is a custom to worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha

And Their idols should be made of clay to ensure you success, good health and helps you in removing obstacles

8. THINGS TO REMEMBER WHILE PLACING ‘DIYAS’ OR ‘DEEPAK’

Whenever you place ‘Diya’ it should be in Odd numbers like 21 or 11

After Puja wherever you place diyas, place it in a set of Four.
It is believed these four ‘diyas’ represent Lord Indra, Lord Kuber, Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi

Doing this brings very fruitful results

Use earthen diyas, clean it with pure water few hours before puja and then let it dry completely

As per Hindu scriptures it is believed if we place 21 Oil diyas and 9 pure ghee diyas in the temple Goddess Lakshmi visits directly in the temple
 

9. THINGS NOT TO FORGET IN DIWALI
 

  1. Make a kumkum ‘Swastik’ on the cash almirah
  2. Place your cash almirah in such a way that while opening the door faces the north

Since North is the zone of lord Kuber as per vastu Shastra and it is believed He refills the cash when the door opens in this direction
