On the First Day of Navratri wear Royal Blue dress/ clothes
The first day of Navratri is also known as ‘Pratipada’
Goddess Shailputriis worshipped on the first day who is also the first manifestation of Devi Durga
Significance of GoddessShailputri
The word ‘Shail’ means Mountain
And Shailaputri is an avatar of Goddess Durga, who was born in the house of King of Mountains
‘Shailputri’ literally means the Daughter of Mountain
GoddessShailputri rides on a bull and She holds a Trident in her right hand and a Lotus in her left hand.

This day Goddess ‘Brahmacharini’ is worshipped

In this form, unmarried Goddess desired to get married to Lord Shiva
Due to Her constant penance or ‘tapa’ for more than a thousand years she is known as ‘Brahmacharini’

Goddess Brahmacharini did hard penance to get married to Lord Shiva.
After getting married to Lord Shiva Goddess started adorning Her forehead with a half-moon shaped like a bell
And this form of Goddess is worshipped as Goddess ‘Chandraghanta’
In this form, Goddess holds weapons, ‘kamandal’, lotus and a ‘japmala’ in her hands and rides on a Tiger

She has eight hands and rides on a Lion

2. Also as per a few legends, when Goddess Brahmacharini did hard penance to get Lord Shiva she became very weak and pale
So to revive Herself she took bath in Holy Ganga and thus known as ‘Maha Gauri’
