Keeping green plants brings prosperity and happiness in our lives. But if we don’t follow Vastu principles in keeping them in the right direction it may bring some adverse effects in our lives. Here are some basic Vastu principles that we should follow to bring prosperity and good luck:

  • Avoid thorny or milking plants as these are inauspicious.
  • Flower pots should not be kept on the east, north or northeast wall of the building.
  • Peepal or Fig or Banyan trees are sacred trees so shouldn’t be kept at home. These plants should be placed only in temples.
  • Holy Basil or Tulsi (Botanical name- Ocimum sanctum) is very auspicious and should be kept in North, East or Northeast direction
  • Bamboo (Dracaena braunii) is an indicator of luck and peace and it brings fame and wealth.
  • Money plant (Botanical Name- Epipremnum aureum) is an indicator of wealth and income and should be kept in North or East direction
  • Ashoka tree (Saraca indica) is an indicator of joy and it’s a ‘Sanskrit’ word which means without grief. It should be kept outside the house to remove grief and sadness.
  • Banana Tree (Musa genus) is considered to be very auspicious and it is worshipped on Thursday along with praying to Lord Vishnu. It should be kept in the North East of the house for good health and mental peace.
  • Tall trees should be planted in Southwest direction for better stability.
  • Do not cut any plant or tree in the month of Magh or Bhadrapad.
  • It is believed that evil spirits dwell in the Tamarind/Imli (Tamarindus indica) and Myrtle tree (Genus Lagerstroemia). So avoid building or buying any house near these trees.
  • Never keep dried or dead plants and flowers as they bring negativity to your house. Do not place plants or trees in the centre or extreme front of your house as doing so will obstruct the flow of energy.
  • Small plants or trees can be grown in North or East, but avoid them from the North East area. In North East corner you should avoid any plant or tree except Holi Tulsi (Basil)
  • Do not place any bonsai plant as they represent short/ little growth.
